About Pettinain
Pettinain is a countryside hamlet and civil parish in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, of historic interest for example, there is an old church dating from 1700, Commonwealth War Graves, and the main road into Pettinain is a Roman Road. There are approximately 150 residences in this small rural Community. From the Churchyard there are great views to Tinto Hill, Coulter Fell, the Pentland Hills and surrounding farmland.
Despite its country location Pettinain is very accessible:
- from Lanark and Biggar by car in 10 minutes,
- to the M74 in 15 minutes (Junction 12, allowing travel north or south)
- to the M8 in 30 minutes (at Whitburn)
- to Edinburgh in one hour (see Directions to Pettinain).
- For more sustainable travel, Pettinain can be reached by trains to Lanark or to Carstairs Railway Station (3 minutes by car, and with great parking) including use of the Caledonian Sleeper to and from London can be boarded and ~ 2-3 hourly with Glasgow and Edinburgh. Access to the Biggar Berwick-Upon-Tweed cycle network is from Carstairs railway station through Pettinain.
